Affiliate Marketing Tips - One of the Biggest Mistakes You Can Make

I admire affiliate marketers. Even though I do quite a bit of affiliate marketing, I don’t consider myself one simply because I create my own products and that’s where most of my income comes from. But make no mistake about it, when it comes to affiliate marketing, I know my stuff. That’s why it kills me when I see affiliate marketers making one of the biggest mistakes that they can make when it comes to affiliate marketing. This article is going to show you exactly what that mistake is and how to avoid it.

So just what is this huge mistake? Well, it’s what I sometimes call the “follow the sheep” syndrome. What do I mean? Well, tell me if this doesn’t sound familiar. Marketer X comes out with his hot new product. Now, this guy is one of the biggest names on the planet with a list the size of Texas. You know that when this product comes out, not only is a good portion of his list going to buy it, but an even bigger portion is going to promote it thinking that because it’s all new and shiny, it’s going to make them a lot of money.

Do you know what the problem with this thinking is? It’s all in the numbers, and if you don’t believe me, head on over to the Clickbank marketplace and take a look at the hottest products there and see how many affiliates are promoting them. They’re in the hundreds. Heck, Day Job Killer, at one time, was over 1,000 affiliates promoting it. Now think about it. With all those people promoting this one product, how many sales do you think you’re going to get out of this thing, especially if you’re a beginning marketer?

The truth is, most beginning marketers make no sales or one or two at best. If they’re thinking of earning a huge income promoting the hot product of the day, they have a long wait. The guys with the big lists are the ones who make the bulk of the sales.

Now, having said that, there are things you can do to get your share of the pie. The best thing to do is simply look for products where the competition isn’t so tough. A product with a gravity of 30 or 40 is perfect to promote. You know it sells and yet there aren’t hundreds of people promoting it. You’ll make more sales from these products than from the hot product of the day. I’ll bet my best mule on that one.

So please don’t make the same mistake that many affiliate marketers make. There are better ways to break into affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Marketing Tips - Are You Fighting a Losing Battle?

Why do affiliate marketers insist on making things hard for themselves? I don’t know about you but I always look for the path of least resistance. Why? Because life is tough enough as it is and I don’t want to make it harder by doing something that is counter productive. When it comes to affiliate marketing, which I do a lot of, that means NOT doing some of the things that I’m going to cover in this article. If you want to save your income, as well as your sanity, you’ll take these words to heart.

Right off the bat, one of the biggest mistakes that affiliate marketers make is promoting the hot product of the day. Yeah, I know…it’s so tempting. Joe Guru comes out with his latest business in the box or whatever it is he’s hawking today and everybody and their grandmother jumps on the train. And let me tell you, we’re talking about a lot of people here. Think I’m kidding?

You have to understand something. When Joe Guru launches a new product, he’s got a massive in house list. I’m talking about 100,000 people or more. What do you think the first thing is that he does? Well, besides trying to get these people to buy the darn thing, he also tries to get them to sell it. Now, while not all of them do, many of them go out promoting this thing. We’re talking thousands of affiliates. Let me ask you a question. What chance do you think you have going up against all these people, some of whom are gurus themselves?

This is absolutely the biggest mistake that affiliate marketers who are just starting out make. But it doesn’t end there. Add to this the laziness of using the same canned ads as everybody else and you’re looking for trouble. Tell me, if you and everybody else is using the same ads that the guru has put together for you, do you think there’s any chance of anybody standing out from the crowd? I can tell you one thing. I have NEVER used a canned ad in my life and my results prove that my way is the best way.

So please do yourself a favor. Find some products to sell that the whole world isn’t selling and write your own ads.

You’ll make a lot more money if you do.

Sometimes I have to shake my head at the way some affiliate marketers go about things. I don’t know about you, but I like to make things as easy for myself as I can. The last thing I want to do is promote something that I haven’t got a snowball’s chance of selling. And yet, I see affiliate marketers do this everyday. Well, if you’re one of them, and not getting the results you want, this article may just get you headed in the right direction.

You’re probably wondering what I’m talking about. Well, here it is straight from the hip. Affiliate marketers who jump on the latest launch craze and don’t have any real experience selling affiliate products, are doomed from the start. Why do I say this? Well, in order to really understand, you need to understand how these launches start and how they develop into the monsters that they become.

Contrary to popular belief, when Joe Guru creates his latest sensation, he doesn’t do this all on his own. He usually has a team of people working on the project. One of those people is the affiliate manager. What the affiliate manager does is, after the product is ready to go, he sends an email out to their list of affiliates. That’s right. This isn’t a list of people they’re trying to get to buy the product. This is a list of maybe 10,000 strong just waiting to promote it. Did that figure scare you? It should.

So when the product goes out the door, the average affiliate is up against thousands of other affiliates promoting the same product, some of which are big name gurus themselves. This makes it even harder for the little guy to make any sales. And yet, this is what the new affiliate marketer does everyday. And then he wonders why he can’t make any sales.

Below is a resource that will help you to become a better affiliate marketer. Even though I sell my own products, I have days where I make more money selling affiliate products. All you have to do is know what you’re doing.
